VMware Acquires PacketMotion

Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure Leader to Integrate User Activity Management Technology into Security Portfolio

Sunnyvale, CA. - August 26th, 2011 — PacketMotion, the leading provider of User Activity Management (UAM) solutions, today announced that it has been acquired by VMware, with the acquisition closing on August 26, 2011. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

PacketMotion’s PacketSentry UAM solution has been extensively deployed in support of virtualized environments for several years, and the recent launch of the vProbe virtual appliance significantly increased PacketSentry’s ability to monitor intra-virtual machine communication. Lack of visibility into this type of communication is a significant challenge in both private and public clouds.

VMware expects to integratePacketMotion technologies into its VMware vShield portfolio, and the PacketMotion team will join VMware’s Cloud Infrastructure Business Unit.

“PacketMotion is excited to join forces with VMware to advance the security of virtual and cloud environments by adding our technology to the VMware security portfolio,” said Paul Smith, President & CEO.
